ABOUT DR. KILARU
Dr. Kilaru finished his medical degree in one of the elite schools in India- Guntur Medical College. He subsequently finished a 5 year general surgery training at Bay State Medical Center affiliated with Tufts University in Boston. He then completed a two-year plastic surgery residency at the University of Southern California. During this training he had rotations at the Los Angeles County Medical Center, City of Hope Medical Center as well as several other elite Plastic Surgery institutions in Southern California. He then went on to complete a hand surgery and microsurgery fellowship at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute and the University of Southern California. His exposure to both the county system and some of the premier reconstructive and cosmetic practices in Southern California provided a foundation from which he could expand his areas of expertise. Because of his extensive and rigorous training Dr. Kilaru specializes in multiple areas of Plastic Surgery including Hand Surgery, Breast Reconstruction, Wound Care as well as Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. After finishing his training he stayed on as a faculty member at USC and at the City of Hope Medical Center concentrating in reconstructive plastic surgery to help patients who were being treated for various types of cancers.
Dr. Kilaru then moved to Fremont, California in 2001 and has been at his current practice location since August 2009. He has been an active member of the Washington hospital medical staff for the past 10 years. In order to give back to the community Dr. Kilaru actively participates in the Washington Hospital Medical Staff structure. He has been the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and has been the Chairman of the Quality and Resource Management Committee for the last four years. He has been the member of the Medical Executive Committee during that time as well. Dr. Kilaru was nominated as Director of the Wound Care Program at Washington hospital since 2004 and has helped manage complex chronic wounds in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. He also covers the emergency room at Washington hospital and for last ten years and has taken care of acute traumatic injuries involving the hand as well as complex facial injuries.
Dr. Kilaru is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery. He strives to maintain his standards and participates in the Maintenance of Certification program provided by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has attended numerous regional and national meetings to stay up-to-date with current techniques in Plastic Surgery. He has also completed an Executive MBA program offered by the Wharton School of Business and graduated May 2010 with an MBA.
During medical school and residency training Dr. Kilaru has received multiple awards including Gold Medals in Surgery and Certificates of Merit in several other disciplines. He has also received awards for teaching excellence during his residency training. Dr. Kilaru volunteers his surgical skills to those less fortunate on a regular basis, going back to his birth country of India and providing free surgical care to indigent patients. He is also actively involved with the Washington Hospital Foundation where he is a trustee. The foundation helps residents of Washington Township in expanding the care they receive. He has lectured extensively locally and internationally in various topics such as cosmetic surgery, breast reconstruction, wound care, quality parameters for hospitals, etc. Dr. Kilaru believes in providing the best care possible to all of his patients. He abides by the standard of treating every patient like he would his own family member.
