Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is designed to tighten loose skin and remove excess tissue around the upper and/or lower lids. It can be performed for both functional and cosmetic reasons.
Why Undergo Eyelid Surgery?
The signs of aging tend to show up around the eyes first and some people develop droopy lids, sagging skin around the upper eyes, and puffiness around the lower lids. All of these concerns can be corrected with eyelid surgery, a relatively simple procedure designed to rejuvenate the area around the eyes. Since the skin around the eyes is so delicate, Dr. Kilaru uses special techniques to carefully remove excess skin, tighten lax skin, and remove fatty deposits that may be present.
Eyelid surgery can help to give you a rejuvenated appearance and can also improve vision if the skin is drooping over the upper eye area. Dr. Kilaru will customize the entire procedure to ensure optimal and natural-looking results.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery is usually performed under local or general anesthesia. Dr. Kilaru will make very small incision lines in the crease of the lid or around the eyes to access the tissue. He can remove fatty tissue, tighten the muscles, and also remove excess skin through these incisions. Treatment of the lower lids requires a small incision made below the lower lash line so that excess skin and any fat below the lids can be removed or repositioned. If needed, the lower eyelid can be tightened to place the lid in a proper position.
Dr. Kilaru will determine which techniques will be most appropriate for you and effective enough to achieve the results you want. Incisions are closed with sutures or skin glue and you will notice some swelling and bruising around the eyes. When the swelling subsides, you will notice the eyes have a more rejuvenated and balanced appearance.
What to Expect with Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery can take years off your appearance. If drooping lids were affecting your vision, this procedure can help restore your vision and improve your quality of life. If excess fat under the eyes was causing eye bags, this procedure can smooth out that area and create a more alert and refreshed look.
Many patients find that they feel more confident when they look well rested and more youthful because of eyelid surgery. This procedure can be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures, including a brow lift or a facelift.
